Studio Felt Workshops

Sue in her Workshop

In my fully equipped studio in the Cotswolds I run one–day workshops for adults. These are on different aspects of feltmaking as well as Indigo and Shibori dyeing. My studio in the village of Bledington is a mile from Kingham main line rail station and is on the Paddington/Hereford line.

This means that I am within easy reach of London, Oxford and Cheltenham. By road I am within easy reach of both the M4 and M40. Click here for location map and contact details

Types of Workshops available

  • Feltbetter's Workshop in the CotswoldsBeginners workshop
Students will learn how to make basic felt, how to bring different fibres into felt making,, some three dimensional felt pieces such as felt beads and a small purse all in one without sewing any seams.
  • Improvers workshop
Students will learn how to make pre-felt, how to design using different methods such as outlining, incorporating fabrics into designs and using needle punch felt, some three dimensional work and a taster of nuno felt.
  • Bags and berets workshop
Students will make a bag or a beret using the resist method. They will learn to design inside and outside using all over patterning and to incorporate details such as pockets and three dimensional decorations.
  • Feltbetter's Workshop in the CotswoldsNuno felt workshop
This will teach how to incorporate fabric and wool/silk together to create a new, drapeable constructed fabric. Students will also learn which fabrics work with this method and how you can construct ‘felt lace’ using nuno felt.
  • Creature workshop
This workshop will show the student how to construct some of the creatures shown on my website. The student will learn how to design a skeleton for the creature and then how to build up the sculpture, use the merino wool to wrap it and then felt and model the piece along with the final finishing.
  • Dyeing in the Shibori style
Student will use Japanese techniques to learn to create patterns and embossing on felt. By wrapping, sewing, clipping and over dyeing, exciting effects are created. Be limited only by your imagination. Create lasting memories on cloth.
  • Glorious Hats
Students will learn how to create wonderful felt hats. How to measure, design and construct the hat in felt, how to shrink it to the correct size, add embellishments, how to block, create pleats and folds.
